Trouble overriding Petalinux u-boot environment

Is there a reason why you couldn't put the "full environment" in 'uEnv.txt', and simply put enough in uboot.env to ensure uEnv.txt is found? I mean, is there a fundamental difference between the way settings in uboot.env and uEnv.txt are treated?

The only technical difference is the CRC, which might help detect corruption of the environment.  As for why one was chosen over the other, it was mostly for the simplicity of loading the complete environment directly instead of redirecting to 'uEnv.txt'.

We'll definitely keep the suggestion in mind as we look for ways to improve it.

Makes sense.

SD certainly works better for me. But IIUC, this is an XZD custom configuration, and stock u-boot will normally try to save to QSPI? Is there a configuration option that controls this?

There are several options that control how the environment is handled.  See the CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_SPI_FLASH section in the Xilinx u-boot README for details on setting it up to use QSPI.  That README has a lot of information that may help with other u-boot questions as well.

Sounds good.
